The country is currently ranked 16th in the world in shipbuilding with less than 1 per cent of the market and aims to be in the top 10 by 2030 and in the top five in 2047. Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria Saad, chairman and chief executive of the CMA CGM, said that while the company&#8217;s large ships were still mainly built by China and South Korea, India offered an opportunity to build smaller ships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant order for the state-owned Indian shipyard, which has built the country&#8217;s first domestically built aircraft carrier and the country&#8217;s largest Cochin Shipyard dredger,\u201d the economic times reported, at the same time, it also undertakes the maintenance task of some active-duty ships. The Cochin Shipyard&#8217;s recent tie-up with shipbuilding giant HD Korea shipbuilding marine \u201cHas largely given the CMA CGM confidence to firm up their determination to sign the order after months of negotiations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that this \u201cHuge order\u201d has brought the \u201cAdded value\u201d to the Cochin Shipyard and other shipyards that the Indian industry has been waiting for. The large order could help other Indian yards win more orders from big shipowners and expand further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis order gives Cochin Shipyard access to the global shipbuilding supply chain,\u201d the report quoted an Indian shipbuilding executive as saying. It&#8217;s not just a question of demand, but more importantly, if CMA CGM comes in today, then maybe Maersk or Mediterranean will come in tomorrow.\u201d, the order will also\u201cIncentivise\u201d parts and equipment suppliers to build ecosystems in India, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>In order to achieve the development goal of the domestic shipbuilding industry, India has introduced a number of policies. India approved a government package of 697.25 billion rupees (56.5 billion yuan) in September to boost industrial capacity and compete with established shipbuilding nations, according to the website of the Indian news agency. In addition, India has launched the ship building financial assistance program (SBFAP) , which provides 20% -30% financial assistance to ships using green fuel or hybrid propulsion systems. Under the policy, Cochin Shipyard receive a 20-25 per cent premium for each ship they build.<\/p>\n<p>But in shipbuilding, India also faces many challenges. According to some Indian media analysts, several major challenges include high infrastructure costs, large gaps in labor and spare parts, such as key components such as engines, propulsion systems and navigation equipment, india remains heavily dependent on imports.
