Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has declared that the situation in Gaza amounts to a\u00a0\u201cgenocide,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0blasting the worsening humanitarian crisis and starvation in the enclave.<\/p>\n

She also called on Hamas to release the remaining hostages captured during the Islamist group\u2019s October 7 assault on Israel, which left around 1,200 people dead.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the most truthful and easiest thing to say that Oct 7th in Israel was horrific and all hostages must be returned, but so is the genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation happening in Gaza,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Greene wrote on X on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

She was replying to a controversial tweet by Congressman Randy Fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cRelease the hostages. Until then, starve away,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he wrote last week, suggesting that the discourse around starvation in Gaza was\u00a0\u201cMuslim terror propaganda.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Greene criticized the post, stressing that the lawmaker\u2019s\u00a0\u201cawful statement will actually cause more antisemitism.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Fine was reportedly dropped from a list of candidates endorsed by the pro-Israel US lobby organization AIPAC days after the post.<\/p>\n

The UN warned on Tuesday that the situation in Gaza is one step away from being classified as a famine. There is mounting evidence that\u00a0\u201cwidespread starvation, malnutrition and disease\u201d<\/em>\u00a0are causing hunger?related deaths, the UN\u2019s food security watchdog IPC said.<\/p>\n

West Jerusalem has rejected claims of deliberate starvation, placing the blame on poor coordination in aid flows and accused Hamas of hijacking convoys and stealing food.<\/p>\n

In March, Israel entirely cut off the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza to pressure Hamas into a ceasefire, but later relented.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, following mounting international pressure, Israel pledged to resume food airdrops and allow pauses in fighting to let humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza. According to the UN, more than 100 trucks made it into the enclave on Sunday.<\/p>\n

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has stressed that the volume of assistance needs to increase.\u00a0\u201cThe trickle of aid must become an ocean,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he wrote on Tuesday, calling for Israel and Hamas to agree on an immediate ceasefire.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
