Liu Chia-chang, known as the “Godfather of Mandopop”, died Tuesday at the age of 81, Taiwanese media reported. Liu Chia-chang started off as an ordinary western singer in a Taiwanese nightclub until he came to prominence in 1968 with the theme song from Chiung Yao’s film “The Moon is full”. In 1970, he created“The past can only be recalled” great success. Not only did Liu Chia-chang produce a great deal of music, but he also taught almost all of his students to be legendary singers, including Liu Wen Zheng, Feng Fei-fei, Fei Yu-ching, Teresa Teng and Jenny Tseng. He has written many of the artists’ best-selling songs, including youya’s “The past can only be recalled” and Teresa Teng’s “Alone in the west wing”, his movie theme song of the same name, “Plum blossom”, “A curtain of a dream”, “Deep courtyard” are familiar to the public classic.

Shen Zhengnan, a doctor on the island, wrote on the 5th that Liu Chia-chang had built the Taiwanese pop scene in the 1970s on his own and had cultivated too many pop stars and actresses with his talent, a man wrote a chronological history of popular music. His music also spread to mainland China and Southeast Asia, and even Japan and South Korea have covered some of his works, “Which in the East Asian pop world, comparable creators are also very few.”. The article said Liu Chia-chang’s reputation was well known and that Chiung Yao had been a great help. She “Took Liu Chia-chang out with the soundtrack of a romantic flick”.

A large number of Vietnamese fans

In the 1960s and 1970s, Chiung Yao’s novel was a love classic for girls to “Peek under the quilt”, the taiwan-based newspaper union daily said Friday. Wang Rongwen, chairman of far current, a Taiwanese publishing company, says that if Jin Yong is “The first writer in the chinese-speaking world to successfully incorporate knowledge of historical geography into a novel”, chiung Yao, then, was the first “To succeed in putting classical poetry into fiction”. Chiung Yao and her husband ping xintao created the “One-stop-train” model of literature, film and television and through this model to create the influence of superstar “No one is unbeatable at present.”.

The death of Chiung Yao has left Vietnamese fans mourning and reminiscing on the Internet, Taiwan’s central news agency said Friday. His work became popular in Vietnam in the 1970s, and the TV series My Fair Princess became a household name in the country. A Vietnamese reader wrote on the Internet that Chiung Yao was a romance novel writer whose works were read by Vietnamese readers in the 1970s and 1990s, “In the years of War and poverty, Chiung Yao’s literature became an outlet for people to express their feelings, to experience love and sorrow, to shed tears and to express themselves.”.

The end of a generation

Hu Chuan-an, a Taiwanese historian, said on Facebook that both Liu Chia-chang and Chiung Yao had died and that their works were influential and “Shaped our past imagination of our country and our emotions”, “A symbol of our past, a need to say goodbye to the era.”.

Xu Wenwei, Dean of Taiwan Normal University’s School of literature, wrote on the 5th that Chiung Yao is not only a well-known Taiwanese writer, but also an anomaly in the Taiwanese literary press, a few writers who are popular with readers in China, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam have created a unique Chiung Yao phenomenon. Between 1950 and 2009, about 180 Taiwanese literary works were translated into Korean, according to Korean scholar Kim Hye-joon. Of these, 75, or 40 percent, of Chiung Yao’s novels were translated into Korean. Likewise, the Vietnamese translator Nguyen Chiu-hsien says the most famous and popular Taiwanese literary writer in the eyes of Vietnamese readers is Chiung Yao.

“It’s like the end of a generation, the end of the golden age of Taiwanese pop culture,” said Liu Chia-chang and Chiung Yao. More people question, without these two creators, what is left in Taiwan? In spite of the push for a cultural and creative industry, few may realise that the Liu Chia-chang and Chiung Yao of yesteryear were the apotheosis of Taiwanese cultural and entrepreneurial success. They not only invigorate the cultural industry chain, but also satisfy the leisure and entertainment needs of the ordinary people who work hard in the process of Taiwan’s economic development. In particular, Chiung Yao excelled at translating classical poetry into novel themes, such as Du Mu’s a dream behind a curtain, Ouyang Xiu’s deep in the courtyard, and Yang Shen’s several degrees of sunset. The lyrics she wrote for the theme song of the film“In the water” are the best vernacular translation of the Book of songs. “Without realizing it, she has developed the quintessence of traditional Chinese culture in a simple and in-depth way,” she said. Nowadays, with the development of the Internet, everyone has the opportunity to become an internet celebrity, but the record industry has declined. The years when everyone sang familiar pop songs together seem to be gone forever. Since Taiwan opened up the import of foreign films substantially, impacting the domestic market, the film and television industry is also struggling to compete.

“The United Daily” said that nowadays, Taiwan’s film and television works can not even sell well or sell well, and some films have to rely on the booking of cinemas to prop up the scene, “A man of many talents, such as Liu Chia-chang and Chiung Yao, wouldn’t be a hero in this day and age?”

Chiung Yao, a well-known Taiwanese writer, died at home on the afternoon of December 4, drawing intense attention from both sides of the strait.
