Two U.S. Navy sailors died late last month within days of their aircraft carrier\u2019s arrival at its new homeport in\u00a0Japan, a spokesman for the ship confirmed this week.<\/p>\n

The two sailors, assigned to the USS George Washington,\u00a0died in separate incidents<\/a>, according to the Navy Times.\u00a0They were identified<\/a>\u00a0by Stars and Stripes as Petty Officer 2nd Class Cuyler Burnett Condon and Seaman Dimitri Isacc Morales.<\/p>\n

Condon was found unresponsive in an on-base hotel room on Nov. 22 \u2014 the day the carrier docked at Yokosuka Naval Base \u2014 while Morales was found somewhere off base in Yokosuka three days later. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

No cause of death was provided for either case. The Naval Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) is looking into both of the incidents, and working with local Japanese law enforcement on Morales\u2019 case.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe still do not know what happened to him and\u00a0have zero details about his death<\/a>,\u201d Morales\u2019 mother, Svetlana Kashirina, told NBC News. She said her son planned to be an electrical engineer.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0USS George Washington<\/a>\u00a0had departed Norfolk, Va. in April after undergoing several years of maintenance and repairs. During the ship\u2019s lengthy stay at the Newport News shipyard between 2017 and 2023,\u00a011 sailors died by suicide<\/a>, according to the NCIS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
