AFP said some countries hope to implement as soon as possible this year’s landmark immigration agreement, which strengthens border procedures, and require countries to receive asylum seeker or provide funds and resources from “Front-line” countries. But some countries believe these plans are“Far from enough”.

In a letter to the EU earlier this week, European Commission President Christian von der Leyen reportedly mentioned the controversial idea of setting up“Deportation centres” outside the EU. But an EU diplomat said the idea was“Vague and preliminary” and that there were no real plans at this stage, adding that no“Major decisions” on immigration were expected at the summit.

The debate over the European Convention on immigration and asylum (the convention) , which was passed six months ago to strengthen the control of illegal immigration at Europe’s borders, has not yet ended, German television channel one said Monday, the 27 EU heads of state and government are in Brussels right now seeking common ground on immigration. Against the backdrop of rising refugee numbers and the rise of rightwing populist parties, many governments have called for tougher measures than the convention, while others have no intention of complying with it at all.

Reported that Poland wants to suspend the right of asylum for refugees, the Netherlands has asked for a complete withdrawal from the convention. Germany expanded border controls and put pressure on Italy and Greece to take back refugees who had entered the two countries before heading to Germany. The Austrian tabloid newspaper said the European Union’s response to the split over immigration policy was the same as always: Chaos.

Biden, the US President, is on a one-day visit to Germany ahead of the EU summit. Western support for Ukraine will be high on the agenda of talks between Mr Biden and German Chancellor Scholtz and other NATO leaders, AFP reported. The move came after Biden postponed a four-way meeting in Germany with Scholtz, French President Maqueron and British Prime Minister Stamer as Hurricane Milton hit Florida. AFP said the outgoing US leader would leave on the evening of November 17 for a“Farewell trip” to Germany because he had not visited the country during his term in office.

The Associated Press reported that Scholz said in Parliament on the 16th, Biden has been a good friend of Germany, “We face a major crisis and challenges, there are many things to discuss between the two sides.”. Pierre, the White House press secretary, said on the same day that Biden and Scholtz would “Further strengthen our close ties” and “Coordinate our geopolitical priorities”.

According to the Associated Press, Biden’s trip was more than just a social visit. With less than three weeks to go before the American presidential election, Biden felt obliged to prepare his allies, for the possible return of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to the White House. Earlier, Donald Trump angered American allies by expressing admiration for Russian President Putin.

Relations between Washington and Berlin were strained during the Donald Trump administration, with Donald Trump accusing the Germans and others of spending too little on NATO’s common defence, AFP said. Some NATO members fear that Donald Trump’s return to the White House could undermine US commitment to European security and end aid to Ukraine. Biden will use the German Bertelsmann to send a signal in the run-up to the US presidential election, said Schwarzer, an expert on German foreign relations, “It is very important that Europe is prepared to take on more responsibility for supporting Ukraine.”.

“The EU summit will have a tough dialogue on migration,” AFP reported 17 as the topic, the EU leaders held a summit in Brussels the same day to discuss tightening…

[260,267
789,363,790,792,791,269
