Several industries in France staged strikes and street demonstrations on November 5 in response to union calls. A French firefighter who took to the streets said in an interview with Phoenix Satellite TV reporter that their appeal was to hire more people and to identify firefighting as a high-risk profession, “The state‘s public services are in poor condition and must be revived. Only by re-increasing funding investment can [we] provide quality public services.”

This strike mobilization involves areas such as transportation, education, healthcare, postal services, telecommunications, as well as banking, insurance and culture. The core demands of the participants focus on wages, employment and public services. Different industry demands are jointly directed towards the next year‘s budget that the government is discussing.
